After her triumphant couture offering for the French fashion house in January, Clare Waight Keller again succeeded in confirming her role as the vanguard designer to bring something a little unusual to the 100 year old Givenchy. In her own words, this season was all about ‘sleaze’ and ‘sass’  – but this wasn’t a predictable collection full of flesh and sex appeal, rather a strong, feminine woman who knows and gets what she wants.

Clare Waight Keller looked to film noir and specifically early 1980s cinema like The Hunger and the cult film Lust & Sound in West-Berlin. While later the melancholy glamour of the early nineties inspired monochrome outfits, all high-necked shirts, casual booties and leather jackets. Cityscapes played a role too,  with structural shapes, geometric panels evocative of angular buildings and shimmering black dresses, their all-over embellishment glistening like a twilight urban skyline.
Long, silky-soft fringing added a little drama, seen on a flirtatious pale champagne mid-length dress with bralette seams, a full white skirt with a back top complete with oversized bow at the neck and then on a more minimal outfit, pairing a black cloak-like top with simple white tailored trousers.
Butter-soft leather work was a talking point too, culminating in an array of pants for both mens and womenswear. From baggy, eighties-style slacks, to sleek cigarette pants and short-sleeve long-line jackets that will be a hit from enthusiasts to newcomers alike.
